When I worked in social work, I had an office space, but mainly I worked out of my car. Going to see folks, writing reports, and making phone calls, happened all day long. Of course I bought a lot of gas. We got reimbursed but right now I'm wondering if I still had that job if the reimbursement could even start to cover gas costs. Not to mention, wear and tear on top of that.
I don't think companies consider just how giving it is when we drive our own cars for work. In the summer (coming up soon folks) the work driving just gets worse due to heat - most of us turn the AC on, which wastes even more gas. If you commute long distances, or do drive your car on official office business, you can save some gas money.
Keetsa has a great little checklist posted that can help you save gas, money, and planet resources.
