Four Ways to Beat Workplace Stress

Workplace stress can put a total end to your productivity and cause other negative emotional and health issues besides. It's good to have a stress toolkit at the ready, the next time your office makes you want to explode.

Before moving on you might want to go back and read the two other stress posts in this current stress series - or not. This post can stand alone if you need some stress busters.

Warning Signs of Workplace Stress

Ways to beat workplace stress:

1. Go for a walk - outside preferably, but if you can't, a brisk walk around the halls can help to. The point is to one, remove yourself from the situation, and two, get your blood circulating. Sitting dormant at a desk is not useful in fighting off stress.

2. Essential oils used for aromatherapy can be very useful. Scents can calm your mind and relieve common office body aches like headache and muscle pain.

3. Have a snack - a healthy snack actually, not just coffee and a pastry. Although, when you're stressed any sort of snack may be useful. Some studies show that we do get extra agitated and sick in the pit of our stomach feelings when we're stressed on top of hungry.

4. Try to see the upside: This is a tough one. You may be really mad and stressed that your project was canceled or that your co-worker is getting props for something you did. However, studies show that people who can continually find the good in poor situations, or at least stay up beat in spite of the situation fare better when exposed to stress. If you're always finding the negative, if that's all you ever see, adjust your attitude somewhat to stay stress free.

There are many more ways to beat stress, far too many for one post. We'll look at some more ideas in the next few days. What do you do to beat workplace stress?
