
There's an interesting article at Business Week; Tempt Talent with Creative Recruiting. It's worth a read if you're in charge of hiring at your office. Turns out that some employers are going the extra mile just to score the best employees.
Some basics about the tactics discussed include:
Make the individuals (or recruits) feel special - i.e. no mass mailing. Email candidates separately. This is true. I've gotten mass emails from blog clients and I never respond. It's just not personal and I always wonder how they'll treat me once I've signed on.
Research, give and then give some more. You will not believe what Aliso Viejo a video game startup did after handpicking about 100 dream candidate. He researched them all extensively and then sent gifts of... (read the article). It's insane. But a tactic that worked out because employees were tempted and the word of mouth alone made this a smart move.
Don't be a sales mode employer; especially if you're recruiting from a pool of already working individuals.
