I read this survey that pointed out how much Americans spent in 2006 on packaged junk food. Guess how much?
More than $32 billion!
Holy, right? That's just too bad, for our bodies, and our productivity. I bet that there are many folks out there, whose work does suffer due to poor diet. I know that when I'm in a time crunch and down coffee and MnMs I feel way worse than when I eat an apple and drink water.
To ward off junk food cravings you can keep some better snacks in your desk drawer. Things that taste good, are lower calorie, lower fat, help that brain of yours, and best of all these are items that are still easy to keep in a desk.
Blue Diamond Whole Natural Almonds
Apples - I know perishable. BUT not if you store a few each week. Not a tree, just a few, they'll be fine in your desk. Bonus points if you go organic.
Granola bars - look for low-fat natural versions.
Asian Pear Crisps or Dried Wild Blueberries, Organic — for when you need a sweet taste
If you really need candy, try a York Peppermint Pattie - only 140 calories, but super rich. I don't personally like mint, but if you do this could be the perfect chocolate treat.
Hot cocoa packets - go nuts, get the ones with mini marshmallows
You'll feel better eating this stuff rather than that old package of chips from the vending machine. I promise.
