Face it; most file cabinets just aren't that recyclable. Once you don't need your file cabinet anymore, or it breaks, what can you do? Mainly you can toss it. Yikes, that's a lot of office waste. If your goal is to green your office in 2008 then the following file solutions are better options.
You could go cardboard right from the start. Then when you're done, you just recycle your filing cabinet.

Fellows has some 35% post-consumer waste, file boxes that stack up to five high. They have metal reinforced support frames - which is not as green as the
cardboard aspects; but, it's still less metal than a regular file cabinet. Other perks include:
- Internal corrugated liner provides multi-wall thickness on sides and back.
- Drawers have reinforced plastic pull handles and large white label areas.
- Easily assembled boxes are shipped flat
Plus, I don't think they look bad at all. For a cardboard piece of furniture, they're not too bad to look at.
You could get the Banker Box Files instead. These come in black and look more like an actual furniture item. They're still made with 35% post-consumer waste, and are stackable. These boxes stack higher though; up to ten boxes high, with interlocking frames.
Either box system is a nice green file solution for your office. Plus think about it, it’s so much less shipping to have cardboard delivered – metal is heavy!
