Remember how everyone was waiting for the next new thing via Macworld. It turns out it's a notebook; an ultra thin notebook. This wasn’t the only Macworld announcement, but the MacBook Air does seem to be the announcement that has the entire Mac bunch drooling. I have to admit, I'm not a Mac user, and even I sort of want one. It's so skinny, so shiny and sleek; it looks like it might fly gracefully away.
Some random stats:
- 0.16 to 0.76 inch thick sturdy anodized aluminum
- Weight just 3.0 pounds
- 13.3-inch, widescreen backlit LED display
- 1.6GHz or 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. According to Apple, "This chip was custom-built to fit within the compact dimensions of MacBook Air."
- Full-size keyboard with backlit key illumination
- Wireless access for up to 5 hours (still, even with the ultra thin battery)
- Built-in iSight camera
- Oversize trackpad with multi-touch technology (same seen on iPhone)
- USB 2.0 port, a headphone jack, and a micro-DVI port that supports DVI, VGA, composite, and S-video output (hidden behind a flip-downport hatch)
- 2GB of RAM built in and 80GB hard drive
See everything; all the MacBook Air stats, video walk-through, and more at Apple. Also of interest, Gizmodo has a post about the "greenness" of the MacBook Air.
