When the holidays hit most of us start thinking, "Yeah, break time!" or at least slow-down time. However, in reality the majority of workers won't slow down much this holiday season.
Accountemps recently conducted a rather large survey that shows that we don't slow down during the holidays. The survey showed that while festivities like office parties and other joyful events do occur it does not slow the workload. About 70% of professionals in the workforce noted that their workloads stay the same or increase during the holidays.
Reasons that workloads may increase instead of slow include:
- End of year projects that MUST get done ASAP.
- Time off for other employees, thus increasing the workload for staff not taking time off.
- It is cold season after all. Illnesses, along with other holiday stressors create staffing issues as well as vacation days.
Some solutions offered by Accountemps include:
- Create clear team plans in order to stay on track and complete projects.
- Allow plenty of time for massive year-end projects.
- Have clear expectations in place regarding each staff members role in the office.
- Schedule time off smartly. Don't have everyone on vacation at the same time. Also planning for decreased staff due to sick days can help.
- Temps are your friends. Hire them. Use them.
