Dell has had one of those up and down years. Fortune recently reported on Dell's cloudy future and other tech and business publications have followed suit. That doen't mean their out. According to PC World, surveys by Gartner and IDC place Dell at the top of the list for U.S PC vendors.
Last Thursday Dell joined up with Best Buy. The Dell XPS M1330, Inspiron 1521 and Inspiron 1420 notebooks, the XPS One all-in-one and Inspiron 530, 531, and 531s desktops are now items you'll be able to find on your local Best Buy shelves.
More than 900 Best Buy locations will be selling Dell computers and I'm fuzzy about this helping Dell out. You can already find some Dell computers at Staples and Wal-Mart but really when you think Dell, you think custom.
For a long while now (forever) Dell's website and the monthy glossies I get from them really push the fact that with Dell you're getting a custom system. You go online, choose colors, choose add-ons, and all the other little touches that will make a Dell "your" Dell. Buying a pre-made computer is far from custom. I guess they need to work on their brand image or at least stick with one. But since this is not a branding blog I suppose I'll leave it at this. For those looking for a Dell Best Buy may be just the ticket.
