Each year on the 21st of September, people across the world celebrate peace; maybe with a moment of silence, prayer, song, or just thoughts for a better world.
How you celebrate this year's International Day of Peace is up to you but it is important to recognize the day in some respect I think.
Consider your chill factor at work; are you staying calm more often than not or does your temper flare at even the little things. Something about a peaceful office (or any work) environment is that it's a mess of issues. Many things contribute to a peaceful working environment.
I have a theory that if the stress and peace is always absent from work quit. It's that simple. Some people disagree but consider that stress makes you sick, it makes you tired, and flows over into your personal life. If you can't find peace at your workplace it is time to look elsewhere. There are many paths and opportunities -- it's important to find one that suits you. Never let work become your whole reason for living.
Here are some ideas for creating peace at the office:
- Play some mellow tunes.
- Calm your cubicle.
- Burn some incense (if not allowed run some safe aromatherapy).
- Try some office harmony tips.
- Take an unused office room and create a zen meditation room for a break room. I'm not kidding -- I actually worked somewhere that did this. Fountain, soft couch and all.
- Find out just how peaceful you are with a quiz.
- Send a co-worker peaceful flowers!
- Take one small moment today; and every day to be peaceful with yourself and others.
Happy Peace Day!
