Ah yes, another good reason to use that vacation time.
A recent study conducted by the University of Tennessee Health Science Center reports that when unemployment rates are low, hospitals see a higher admission rate for blunt trauma; "Physical trauma caused to a body part, either by impact, injury of physical attack which can result in contusions, abrasions, lacerations and bone fractures."
The study suggests that maybe rates are higher due to work travel such as more workers getting into auto accidents because they're traveling place to place. But the results were not conclusive.
But don't quit that steady office position just yet; you're gonna need the health care benefits.
The study also points out that when unemployment rates are up that more hospital admissions for penetrating trauma are seen; " Injuries that occur primarily by an object piercing the skin or entering a tissue of the body, such as bullets and knives."
Holy. What are we supposed to do? Would you like a little blunt or maybe some penetrating trauma? I'm not loving my options here.
The study recommends that “injury prevention efforts targeted at economically disadvantaged populations and high-risk groups should be stressed when designing community trauma outreach programs, especially during times of economic hardships.”
So what about during times of unemployment lows? I guess I'm going to recommend not making your co-workers angry and a U.S. wide ban on baseball bats at the office.
What do you think? Do you have a trauma preference? Geez. What is the working world coming to?
