Xerox Corporation is the name in office equipment like business copy, printers, and document management technology. We all know Xerox; most of us have gone so far as to make it a household name for basic copy making.
Now there's yet another good reason to choose Xerox products at your office; they're going green. Or rather supporting green. This is a company that already gives millions each year to educational endeavors and now it's just been released that Xerox has created a new $1 million grant for a fellowship program at MIT's School of Engineering.
This new grant will go to cover the following research areas:
- Green processes and technology, such as how product manufacturing and use is impacting the planet.
- Imaging and smart documents, which includes various applications such as natural language generation and translation.
- Nanotechnology and microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS). Um, fancy words for research about ways to improve devices and applications used by companies.
Xerox has great items for your office and I think great ideas for your office as well. If you check out their foundation page, you'll see that not only do they give money to various causes but that they also have some pretty neat employee programs. Like the Xerox Social Service Leave Program where employees get paid leave to volunteer.
The best reason to buy a piece of office equipment is if it will fit your needs, work well, and be economical all at the same time. I think it's also important to consider what a company you buy from is doing with their profits. It's up to everyone to be socially responsible. Xerox is not the only office company doing this; just the one I saw today. Maybe if you're in charge of large equipment at your office, look into the company you purchase from before hand.
Do you know an office related company who is doing something great for the world? Let me know.
