Asbury Park Press (APP) recently featured an interesting article about the influence of office design on work productivity. Discussed in the article, is an office makeover that opened up the office floor plan and resulted in happier and more productive employees.
I know that personally my office design influences my work habits. I'm far more productive when:
- Everything has a place to call home. No floating tape dispensers. No stacks of unsorted papers.
- Natural light is flowing. Also, plenty of soft bulb lighting for when I work at night.
- I have artwork or photos I like on the walls.
The office to the right is probably perfectly functional. But it lacks any wow factor. A ho-hum setting makes for ho-hum work.
The APP reports that simple changes can go a long way for offices on a budget. Changes such as opening up the space, adding light, some comfortable furniture, extra storage, and personal touches such as artwork can make a positive difference in both attitudes and productivity.
Imagine sitting at this office space in the photo. Day in day out. How do you feel about that? Fine. Ok. Or do you maybe want something more?
