According to a new survey done by Fellowes Inc., an office supply company, nearly 50% of American workers who work in an office cubicle say, "Yes."
Other results showed that 23% said their kitchen pantry or home closet were larger than their office cubicle. That's not very cool. People spend a lot more time at work than they do in their kitchen pantry (unless you happen to be a chef. Then, I suppose, this post really isn't for you; sorry).
The survey found more issues, such as the average worker spends three full hours a week simply trying to find the next project in that cubicle huge mess.
Sounds like a problem to me. The catch to doing this survey was that of course, Fellowes went and created a new line of products specifically designed to eliminate clutter, organize a messy cubicle, and cut down on office frustrations. Think it'll work?
Let's look at the new line and find out.
The new line from Fellowes, called Partition Additions is being marketed as, "A unique organizational system that maximizes workspace by moving files and other essentials off the desktop." So far so good.
I visited the site and it does seem like this line would get your cubicle in tip top shape. The line comes in four solution materials; metal, mesh, wire, and shown in the picture to the right, plastic.
I'm partial to the wire style (pictured below) -- it seems to fade more into the background than the other three styles.
What solutions are available: Available in all four styles are; hanging step files, triple layer trays, coat hooks, and file pockets.
Available in only light-weight plastic (probably so your cubicle doesn't tip over) are a ton of great items including: car key hooks, display clips, pencil cup, organizing tray, business card holder, file pocket, corner shelf, wall-shelf, post-it dispenser, dry erase board, and this cool little number shown below; the corner organizer.
Everything in the collection attaches to the wall and thus removes the clutter from your desktop. I don't think Fellowes forgot anything, except maybe a coffee cup holder (can I market that now).
What do I think: I'm finding myself wishing that I had a cubicle just so I could get some of these cool supplies. As a whole, this line could organize the average messy cubicle into a small but still effective workplace.
If you're interested in organizing that tiny cubicle you live in, the Partition Additions line is available at Office Max, Office Depot, or direct from Fellowes.
Fellowes is also sponsoring a new contest; each time you order $25 in Partition Additions products you'll be entered to win a Shredder valued at $849. A nice perk. To get full details about the contest visit the Fellowes website or download this informational pdf.
How about you? Is the size of your cubicle bringing you down?

I actually love these products. What a great idea! I absolutely would have wanted these back in my corporate days when I had a cubicle. My problem was, I had a big cubicle, too much paper and not enough filing drawers (so much for a paperless office). With this new storage system, I would have just filled up my newly freed desk space as well as everything on the walls. It was a never-ending paper mess! I guess it's like when you buy a bigger house. You just end up collecting more stuff.
