Holy smokes! This blog is for real office workers who have a much smaller office furniture budget but I simply have to share this crazy piece of news.
Six pieces of office furniture designed by George Nakashima (1905-1990) recently auctioned at Sotheby's for $560,500!
Nakashima, is one of the most influential midcentury American furniture designers and craftsmen so it makes some sort of nutty sense. But still, this furniture had better do all my work for me and my home laundry, and give me a kidney if I ever need one if I'm shelling out this kind of green.
The office furniture was previously kept in storage for 20 years by International Paper. The furniture was recently found and it was decided that it could be auctioned off and the money given to Coins 4 Kids. Sotheby's estimated $150,000 as the auction price. Obviously they were off a bit.
Besides my obvious interest in all cool thing office related I'm actually also somewhat of an architect and furniture buff (wow, I am multi-layered).
Nakashima is a very interesting study in wood builders and if you get a chance his story is well worth a look.
For those of you dying of curiosity. I got my office floor picked up! It took all day yesterday but I did it. I got my record player all set up and I've been happily working away with the music all day today. There's more to do but at least I'm no longer trapped.
Is this the most you've ever heard of someone paying for office furniture? Or can you tell me a better story.

The big question for me is will this office furniture actually be used for work? I'd be afraid to put my stapler on it. I can't even think about a coffee cup! And now for my sarcastic comment of the day...it must be for an executive's office. Ouch!
