Part of working in any company—particularly in an office environment—is the never-ending quest to be more productive: increase productivity! decrease cost! go, go, go! I know I’ve been mired down in some horrendously unproductive organizations in my lifetime, and it is a huge frustration to me. If everyone were just as productive as I am! <Grin> Of course, I jest; we all have our moments of wastefulness, we can all improve our productivity.
Productivity501.com is a blog that deals with just that—helping to improve our
productivity. Written by Mark Shead, this site has an impressive amount of RSS feed subscribers (971 subscribers on today’s count), which to me is a vote of confidence about this blog’s content. And I must say I agree with said subscribers: Shead has a solid, informative site going here.
I particularly like some fresh angles that Shead takes on delivering productivity tools and tricks, such as his list of Nine Ways to Devastate Productivity, where he describes ways to destroy a hated co-worker’s productivity, which I believe is quite an ingenious way to highlight and teach ways to be more productive ourselves. Unless of course the reader is a total narcissist and misses that point.
Shead’s writing is entertaining as well as poignant. I like his analogy of The Most for your Minute, where he teaches managing time better by ordering tasks properly, using a survival simulation example. I see the point, and I’m a big believer in such time management, but the weakness in the example I immediately thought of is: why can’t the youngest guy climb last and just tread water until the ladder is free? He’s young, he’s got energy, surely he can swim. Anyway, perhaps that is being overly critical—darn my brain!
Another cool thing about Productivity501 is a contest such as the win a free iPod contest by writing a review about Productivity501. What a smart idea! Of course, I’m the quintessential anti-iPod guy (not a fan of portable music in any form), so that’s not an incentive to me, but I’m sure it is to others. I’m curious to see if the contest actually works. The 150 review post minimum for the contest seems very high, but I guess we’ll see.
One definite thing I’d suggest to Mark about the blog is at the bottom of its main page to have a “Previous Entries” button that links to the previous set of 5-7 entries, and so on. The only way I can see entries older than the ones on the main page is to go to the Archives, which I’d rather not do. A “Previous Entries” button just makes it easier to read more entries.
To sum up, I’d recommend this site to those seeking help with improving productivity; it’s certainly RSS feed subscription-worthy.

Indeed, it's a very interesting blog and the ideas exposed there can really help you. The productivity is a problem we're all dealing with, so that little piece of advice is the best! Great job!
