Here's my home office. I moved into this office three years ago when my husband and I built our new house.
At our old house, my office was in a 10x10 foot spare bedroom. This office has the luxury of space (30x16 feet), privacy (it's in a building separate from the house), lots of light and nice views into the forest.
The floors are fir, which is beautiful but it does dent and scratch easily because it is a soft wood.
Do you think I have enough desk space? Yeah, maybe I did overdo it...the result of being crammed for space in my former office. I had the desk custom made by a local cabinet company. The drawer units are stock cabinets, and they act as pedestals to hold up the expanses of desktop.
The desktop is blue laminate with bevelled fir edging. Altogether I have 23 linear feet of desktop! It cost about $4000 to have this desk built and installed. Seems like a lot, but I do have three work stations.
As you can see, I still haven't found a good solution for the tangle of cables under my desk. That's something that I'll be investigating and reporting on in this blog.
The part of the office that you can't see is the sitting area. I've got a cozy area with a sofa, area rug, coffee table, bookshelves and good lighting for when I want to read or meet with clients. You can't beat the sofa for those long conference calls either!
Another thing that I like about my office is the wall of closets on the right. I have all my supplies and filing cabinets behind those doors, which helps to keep my working area free from clutter.
