A recent study by microbiologists at the University of Arizona discovered that the average desktop is home to 400 times more germs than the average toilet seat. This stems from the increasingly common practice of eating lunch at your desk, rather than heading to the lunch room or out of the office.Phones had the highest concentration of germs, which is not surprising considering the amount of time the phone spends near a variety of mouths. Keyboards were also a culprit for being home to large quantities of germs; all of those spaces between the keys are ripe for bits of food to take refuge.
The good news is that the study also found that those desktop that were wiped down once per day saw a reduction in germ contamination of 99.9%.
Given the health implications of spending a great deal of time in a germ infested hazard zone, it seems logical enough to invest in some antibacterial wipes. Get into the habbit of wiping down your desk and everything on it, especially your phone, each day before you leave, or while you're stuck on that incredibly monotonous conference call.
